Why HanGeul exists

HanGeulstarted with a small frustration. There is a well-loved app for learning Japanese vocabulary through spaced repetition and typing, and using it feels genuinely good: you type each answer, the schedule brings words back right before you would forget them, and the levels give the whole thing a shape. When I went looking for the same thing for Korean, it wasn't there.

I had tried the usual options. Some were fun but shallow, some were powerful but fiddly to set up, and none of them focused on the thing I actually wanted: reading and typing real Korean words, with feedback precise enough to tell me which letter I got wrong. So I built it.

What HanGeul is

HanGeulis a typing-first course for Korean vocabulary. You learn a few words in a short lesson, then spaced-repetition reviews bring each one back on a schedule tuned to how memory actually works. Every answer is typed, using a built-in Korean keyboard, so you practice production rather than just recognition. When you miss, the app shows you the exact letter that was wrong instead of a blank “incorrect.”

The course runs to 50 levels and about 2,000 of the most useful Korean words, with native audio on every word and example sentence. It starts from the very beginning: level 0 is a full interactive course in the Korean alphabet, so it works even if you can't read a single letter yet. Levels 0 to 3 are free, so you can find out whether the method suits you before paying anything.

Who builds it

HanGeul is made by Daniel, an independent developer, not a company. That means the roadmap follows what learners actually need rather than what a growth target demands, and you can reach a real person when something is wrong or missing.
