How 울다 conjugates
- Find the stem. Take 다 off 울다 and you are left with 울.
- Check the last vowel. It is ㅜ, and any vowel other than ㅏ or ㅗ takes 어요.
- Join them. 울 + 어요 gives 울어요. The ㄹ drops before ㅂ니다, giving the formal form.
- Build the rest on it. The past tense adds ㅆ to the same base, giving 울었어요, and the table above has the future and the formal form.
Using 울다
ㄹ-irregular. 웃다 vs 울다: ㅅ batchim laughs, ㄹ batchim cries.
아기가 울어요.
The baby is crying.
영화를 보고 울었어요.
I cried watching the movie.
