| Dictionary | 비싸다 | |
| Polite present | 비싸요 | |
| Polite past | 비쌌어요 | |
| Polite future | 비쌀 거예요 | |
| Formal | 비쌉니다 |
The polite forms end in 요 and suit most conversations; the formal form is for announcements, presentations and first meetings. The same form works for I, you, she or they.
How 비싸다 conjugates
- Find the stem. Take 다 off 비싸다 and you are left with 비싸.
- Check the last vowel. It is ㅏ, and a stem ending in ㅏ or ㅗ takes 아요.
- Join them. The vowels merge as they meet: 비싸 + 아요 gives 비싸요.
- Build the rest on it. The past tense adds ㅆ to the same base, giving 비쌌어요, and the table above has the future and the formal form.
Using 비싸다
Gives you 비싸요. The ㅆ sits in the second syllable, so it's 비싸다, not 삐사다.
이거 너무 비싸요.
This is too expensive.
서울은 집값이 비싸요.
Housing prices in Seoul are expensive.
