How 일어서다 conjugates
- Find the stem. Take 다 off 일어서다 and you are left with 일어서.
- Check the last vowel. It is ㅓ, and any vowel other than ㅏ or ㅗ takes 어요.
- Join them. The vowels merge as they meet: 일어서 + 어요 gives 일어서요.
- Build the rest on it. The past tense adds ㅆ to the same base, giving 일어섰어요, and the table above has the future and the formal form.
