Before a noun친절한

The polite forms end in 요 and suit most conversations; the formal form is for announcements, presentations and first meetings. The same form works for I, you, she or they. As an adjective, 친절하다 takes 친절한 in front of a noun; the Korean adjectives guide explains how that form is built.

How 친절하다 conjugates

  1. Find the stem. Take 다 off 친절하다 and you are left with 친절하.
  2. Apply the 하다 pattern. 하 becomes 해 before an ending. That gives 친절해요.
  3. Build the rest on it. The past tense adds ㅆ to the same base, giving 친절했어요, and the table above has the future and the formal form.
