| Dictionary | 만나다 | |
| Polite present | 만나요 | |
| Polite past | 만났어요 | |
| Polite future | 만날 거예요 | |

The polite forms end in 요 and suit most conversations; the formal form is for announcements, presentations and first meetings. The same form works for I, you, she or they.
How 만나다 conjugates
- Find the stem. Take 다 off 만나다 and you are left with 만나.
- Check the last vowel. It is ㅏ, and a stem ending in ㅏ or ㅗ takes 아요.
- Join them. The vowels merge as they meet: 만나 + 아요 gives 만나요.
- Build the rest on it. The past tense adds ㅆ to the same base, giving 만났어요, and the table above has the future and the formal form.
Using 만나다
Double ㄴ in the middle: 만나다, not 마나다. 만나서 반가워요 = nice to meet you.
만나서 반가워요.
Nice to meet you.
내일 친구를 만나요.
I'm meeting a friend tomorrow.
