| Polite present | 가르쳐요 | |
| Polite past | 가르쳤어요 | |
| Polite future | 가르칠 거예요 | |

The polite forms end in 요 and suit most conversations; the formal form is for announcements, presentations and first meetings. The same form works for I, you, she or they.
How 가르치다 conjugates
- Find the stem. Take 다 off 가르치다 and you are left with 가르치.
- Check the last vowel. It is ㅣ, and any vowel other than ㅏ or ㅗ takes 어요.
- Join them. The vowels merge as they meet: 가르치 + 어요 gives 가르쳐요.
- Build the rest on it. The past tense adds ㅆ to the same base, giving 가르쳤어요, and the table above has the future and the formal form.
